My name is Sylvia Ndirangu, and I am completing the Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Digital Journalism program at Thompson Rivers University. My work focuses on how communication shapes the way people interpret information, especially when dealing with complex or unfamiliar topics. Each section of this portfolio has been intentionally selected to demonstrate the development of my skills, from storytelling and research to strategic, audience centered communication.

At the beginning of my degree, with limited knowledge of communications, I assumed it was just a process of delivering information clearly with excellent grammar and punctuation. I initially focused on accuracy and structure, assuming that if something was well explained or written out, it would automatically be understood by its intended audience. However, I soon came to realize that clarity in writing was not enough for good communication. I began to notice that how information is presented, along with tone and audience expectations, shapes how a message is received by the audience. This shift changed how I approach every project or piece of communication.

My current work now reflects a more intentional focus on audience awareness and engagement. In my storytelling, I think carefully about audience perspective and how to create a connection without losing meaning. In research based work, I mainly focus on organizing complex information in a way that remains clear while still maintaining the required depth and credibility. Across multimedia and strategic projects, I adjust tone, structure, and message delivery to suit the context and purpose of the work.
